LinkedIn Intro? No thanks. My data security & privacy are too important

LinkedIn on Thursday faced criticism from security experts and confusion from members over the just launched new software product that embeds public LinkedIn profiles into emails received by iPhone users. By using this new product, LinkedIn members don’t have a choice to opt out of having others see their account information attached to an email they send. Rather than your iPhone connecting directly to your email provider’s servers (Gmail, Yahoo, etc), it will be connecting via LinkedIn’s proxy server instead – which will act as a middle-man in your email communications. LinkedIn will then look at your email messages, and insert Intro information into each one. Another concern: the privacy statement for the software suggests LinkedIn does hold on to some of the data it collects when people use the service. It reads: “If you are not connected with the person on LinkedIn, we may later suggest them as a connection on the LinkedIn website and in our other mobile apps.”
